RAMAYANA
by Hasyada Bhalchandra Pandya

While the afternoon enjoys a leisurely
siesta under a shady tree, the golden
deer drinks from the mirage far-far away.
Sita points with her index finger;
a man draws an arrow upto his ear.
On the other side of the horizon
the deer coloured sky-blue melts
A birdís wing is severed,
the spurting blood
colours the evening sky.
Kidnapping the scream
someone leaps across
the ocean.
At last,
giddiness causes Parnakutir to collapse.
Like a serpentís track
Writhes the Lakshman-rekha.
Exile for me,
the throne for Rama.
The Ramayana is yet to be written,
Some virgin cry.
