 Poems by Ashwini Ramesh Dhongde

  Of the nature of water

Taking the form of the urn
Wherein I am
My nature is that of water

Throw me in a well
Will lie tranquil
Throw me in a stream
Will gush all the while
Throw me in a sea
Will become clouds bringing showers
I am the mother of the green world
My nature is that of water

Will quench
Thirst
Will liberate from
Burning flames
Will satiate with mere touch
I am the seductress of spotless virtue
My nature is that of water

Look down upon me
It will be your reflection
Immerse yourself
The water would still be untouched
Try to hold it
Your hands will be empty
I am a virgin for ages
My nature is that of water

Will walk straight
If I feel like it
Will overrun the banks
If I go bad
Will jump over
Cliffs and ravines
I am unconstrained and fickle minded
My nature is that of water

Would be quiet
Would be terrifying
Would be frozen
Or flaming
Would give life
Would take it too
I am the master of the entire world
My nature is that of water

Will bloom on flowers
As dew drops
Will line eyelashes
Wearing tears
Will hide in seashells
Becoming pearls
I am luminous with a razor sharp edge
My nature is that of water
Instrument

For sale
An active, working, beautiful
Alive, youthful instrument
It cooks
Washes clothes
Works and
Brings home money
Caters to guests
Keeps the house clean
Welcomes with a smile
And tea with a snacks-dish
Fulfills the body’s hunger
Bears a child for the race
If it breaks down
Is repaired in a few slaps
Not expensive
Just some food required
Home delivery available
With fifty-thousand and ornaments
Hurry up
Book your order today!
